**Standing majestically at the northwest edge of Europe, the Outer Hebrides is a 150 mile-long island chain of beaches, moorland and mountain. Lewis, the largest and northernmost of the islands supports thriving populations of grouse, brown trout, red deer, and migratory populations of woodcock, sea trout, and Atlantic salmon.
For most of us, the opportunity to shoot grouse is one of those pipe dreams, a distant possibility for that day when all the bills are paid. The classic and sustainable way of shooting the king of game birds, grouse over pointers can turn dreams into a reality. Lewis offers shooting accessible to all pockets, provided you can keep up with the pointers.**
If migratory fish are your passion, Lewis’ diversity of fishable water bodies means no matter the vagaries of weather and water level, there is always fishable water. Lewis is one of the last places where a MacNab is still feasible: red stag, brace of grouse and Atlantic salmon in one day.
It’s a rural myth that woodcock live in the trees: long heather provides cover, making these challenging birds a sporting target when flushed over dogs on the open hill. Besides being home to a resident population, Lewis is on the Scandinavian flight path, luring woodcock in numbers to shores warmed by the gulf stream.
**The second punch in this left and right is provided by the smallest bird on the quarry list, the snipe. The Hebrides are a paradise for these elusive waders, with 15% of the UK’s freshwater surface area to 1.3% of its landmass. The combination of speed and diminutive size makes this among the most testing of birds.
Using a variety of accommodation to suit all group sizes and pockets we can tailor a trip to meet the demands of your group**
