**Ptarmigan shooting: **
The shooting season can be different from year to year but usually from 4-8 weeks in October until December.
Good level of fitness is required as the hunters will spend most of the day climbing on foot along steep sided hills and valleys and on to the high mountain tops in search of ptarmigan. But when in gets later in November and the weather changes, the first snows fall to produce a heavy cover of snow on the mountains. This forces the birds to find food and shelter in the lower lying valleys and patches of scrub birch and whilst the hunters are still required to do a considerable amount of walking, the terrain is not as steep or as arduous as might be expected in the early half of the season..
Daylight also plays a big part in deciding when to hunt. In October there is daylight from about 08.00 a.m. to 18.30 hrs / 6:30 p.m. but the days shorten fast and come December it is not possible to shoot much before 11.00 a.m. finishing at 17.00 hrs / 5 p.m. the latest..
Shooting is sold as a four-day package that includes four days shooting. Clients will be picked up by our staff on arrival at Keflavík International airport and driven to the shooting area and lodge. Days two an three are taken up with shooting. On day four, the final day, clients will shoot before returning to Reykjavík in the evening. Whilst on the area each pair of hunters will be accompanied by a guide who has a 4WD vehicle and a dog for picking-up.

**Big Game Hunt
Reindeer Hunting:**
The Icelandic reindeer has been recognized by Safari Club International as a distinct species from the European reindeer. So, there is now a new name for the avid reindeer trophy collectors to add to their lists.
Reindeer hunting takes place in the highlands in the east of Iceland, in an area to the west of Egilsstadir which reaches to the foot of the Vatnajökull glacier. The hunting area is strictly controlled and is accessible only by our clients. Hunting takes place under the guidance of local guides who normally takes one or two clients at a time. They know the area intimately and have managed the reindeer herds for years..
The season runs from 1st August to 15th September. The best time for a trophy with its antlers out of velvet is from around 20th August, onwards. The weather at this time of year is still good with temperatures ranging between 10°C / 50° F and 16°C / 61 ° F but it can become frosty in the hills towards the end of August, especially in the early morning. By the end of the season the plants and trees have changed from their summer green to the stunning colours of autumn..
Each hunting package runs for five days with 3 days set aside for hunting the rest is taken up with travel and familiarization of the hunting area. On arrival at Keflavík International Airport you will be met and transferred to Reykjavík Domestic Airport for the flight east to Egilsstaðir where you will spend the first night.
Clients are then picked by their guide in the early morning of day two and taken on to the hunting area and lodge. The rest of the day is spent locating the reindeer and scouting the hunting grounds. Days three, four and five are reserved for hunting and on the last day clients normally take the 20.00 hrs / 8 p.m. flight from Egilsstaðir to Reykjavík to spend a night in Iceland’s capital, which is in itself a sort of a hunting ground..
Our office handles all documentation for firearm importation and trophy export. Bolt action rifles are permitted but it is illegal to import semi-automatic or automatic rifles into Iceland. The lowest recommended calibre for our reindeer is .243/100 grain. The trophy fee for one trophy is included in the price. A list of suggested clothing and footwear is supplied once a booking is made and it is worth remembering that there are no mosquitoes to contend with during the Icelandic summer..
Included in the hunting is. Transportation Int.Airport - Reykjavík - International Airport. Domestic flight Reykjavík - Egilsstadir -Reykjavík. Full board and lodging. One professional guide with 4WD super Jeep vehicle, pr. every 2 hunters. One Trophy. All equipment needed, except firearms and ammunition.
