Offering shooting at two locations set in the beautiful rolling hills of the Hampshire countryside, the West Tisted Manor Estate is a traditional country estate of approx 2,600 acres.
Hospitality
Tea, coffee, fruit juice and a breakfast roll will be served upon arrival. Elevenses such as canapes, hot soup and sausages will be served back at the farm or out in the field and the days will end with a two course hot cooked meal.
Birds
A typical shoot day at West Tisted will consist of mixed pheasant and partridge drives whilst at Longwood Down the drives are predominantly partridge.
Both sites are pegged for just 8 guns in the line allowing for good spacing of the guns throughout the season although 9 guns could be accommodated.
Whether you have a day at West Tisted or a day at Longwood Down, there are many drives of varying difficulty to choose from, ranging from cover crops, woodland glades, conifer forest with valleys and rolling hills, providing a real mix of terrain for the showing of the birds.
Topography
Set in the stunning South Downs National Park, the main part of the Estate at West Tisted is approx 600 feet above sea level, with rolling hills and valleys. The land is medium clay soil with some fields running into chalk.
Longwood Down, the other part of the Estate, is situated a few miles away near Winchester and is very light land.
Conservation Efforts
All the land is farmed by the owner and the rest of the arable land is made up of game cover, land in the Higher Level Stewardship Environmental Scheme, the Sustainable Farming Initiative and amenity grassland.
The farm has adopted LEAF’s principles of Integrated Farm Management (IFM) to continue its drive to deliver sustainable regenerative agriculture whilst achieving higher productivity with a low impact on the environment.
Woodland on the Estate totals approx 75 hectares. Several of the woods are scheduled as Sites of Importance for Nature Conservation. These are ancient woods, which have been woodland for many hundreds of years.
About the hosts
The Estate Manager will ensure the days run smoothly. From meeting the guns in the morning for breakfast, to making sure that non-shooting guests have an equally wonderful day, we aim to provide a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere for all.
Final thoughts
The shooting is kindly offered by the Estate’s owner, Ashwin Hill, who bought and took it over in 1992 as a whole working farm. The Estate includes over 35 houses of which a proportion are occupied by Estate staff with the remainder let to private tenants.
