Pheasant
Partridge

The Bushey Down shoot is perfect for those looking for a fun, relaxed day with both excellent sport and hospitality in the stunning Hampshire countryside.

No two drives are the same, with partridge shown over steep grass banks and across open arable valleys while pheasants are shown from game cover back to mature woodland, and across steep wooded banks. The fantastic variety will satisfy all levels of experience and ability to provide a fun and exciting day.

Hospitality

We provide a sausage bap breakfast with coffee in the farmhouse to start the day. After two drives we have a drink stop in the field of sloe gin and fizz together with nibbles including our own pheasant salami.

Lunch is back at the farm to try our deliceous pheasant and vegetable soup and a locally produced pasty. Beer, wine and soft drinks all in plentiful supply.

Birds

We take great pride in the fact that no two drives are the same at Bushey Down, giving guns a variety of exciting sport. We show partridges over steep grass banks, high hedgerows and across wide open arable valleys providing fast and testing birds.

Our Pheasants are lean sporting birds that fly really well, whether that is out of game cover across rolling arable fields and back to woodland, or out of our highest wooded banks.

Our birds aren't coming off the side of a welsh mountain, but they are testing, fun and very good sport for everyone to enjoy.

Topography

The topography is a mix of chalk downland, undulating farmland and mature woodland, meaning no two drives are the same. The views from every party of the farm are stunning, and tipify the rolling downland of the Meon Valley and the South Downs National Park.

Conservation Efforts

We run the shoot in conjunction with an extensive environmental stewardship scheme, providing miles of newly planted hedgerows, new woodland plantations, field corners out of production, nectar flower mixes and wild bird seed mixes. We have worked hard to provide a patchwork of environmental benefits throughout the season, all woven into our conventional arable farm. The envrionment is at the heart of everything we do in both a farming and sporting context.

About the hosts

We are a family farming business, so the day will be hosted by father and son team, Stephen and Chris Horn. We have a great love of the countryside and all field sports. The shoot has historically been mostly for family and friends, so we welcome guests with the same warmth and enthusaism.

We welcome like minded teams looking for an enjoyable day of both excellent sport and hospitality.

Final thoughts

We have been farming at Bushey Down since 1932 and as a family we have been farming in The Meon Valley since 1605. So this is very much home.

The shoot has grown in recent years from being only friends and family to now hosting more let days than home days. With it, we have introduced some really exciting new drives and some wonderful sport.

While the shoot has changed, the warmth and hospitality is as generous as it has always been.
