JOIN FOR THE 2025-26 SEASON'S CALENDAR.

To celebrate our 10th Anniversary we have a wide range of varied shooting available throughout the upcoming season. There are only a few of dates listed here so do get in contact for the FULL CALENDAR.

The 'Rough Rovers' was originally created to seek out accessible and sensibly priced shooting all over the country. We put out a Calendar each season including full driven days, mini-driven boundary days, walked up, rough and wild bird days in all corners of the British Isles.

Responding to our Members requests this season we have a good selection of driven days ranging from 60 to 200 hundred birds. The majority of these are on Private Estates where we are always well looked after and full hospitality is always provided. Our days are very relaxed and the focus is very much on enjoying the day in good company in beautiful countryside. We normally stand 8 or nine guns on our driven days and guests and dogs are welcome.

This season's Calendar also contains a healthy number of smaller boundary days that are usually a combination of walked up and mini-driven shooting. We usually have four to seven guns on these days and they can vary in size from 30 - 50 birds and this is reflected in the price. Again the focus is very much on the enjoyment of the day for the whole team including those beating and picking up. Novice shots and those new to walked up shooting are more than welcome and advice and instruction will be generously offered by other team members. We generally all pitch in for food on theses smaller days and this has become quite competitive over the years with some very enthusiastic chefs.

We also offer wild bird days including dedicated woodcock back to back days, snipe shooting, walked up grouse, duck flighting, pigeon shooting and can easily arrange stalking opportunities on many of the estates we visit.

For those who have dogs (novice or experienced) we encourage our guns to bring them along. Members are welcome on any shoot days to work their dogs and beat rather than shoot to simply get them used to a day in the field.  This season we are adding a couple of early season dog training days for guns who want to shoot over their own dogs with some expert instruction.

Our shoot partners vary from season to season and are carefully selected according to the feedback we get from our guns. For the new season we aim to shoot in Devon, Dorset, Somerset, Gloucestershire, Wiltshire, Staffordshire, Shropshire, Worcestershire, Powys, Pembrokeshire, Cumbria, Derbyshire, Gwynedd, Warwickshire and Cornwall.

There are two ways to become involved with The Rough Rovers. Either you can pay a modest Membership Fee or pay a supplement on each day you decide to take. The number of days you shoot is entirely up to you.  We encourage our members to shoot five or more days a year with us to get a true feeling of the Rough Rovers and our current Members.  Some guns will select one or two days they particularly like or that are geographically convenient - the choice is yours. This season's Calendar is out now and there are still plenty of guns available.

If you would like any more information about how we run The Rough Rovers or to discuss the upcoming season's calendar please get in touch through Guns on Pegs or find us on the internet. There are only a few of our driven days published on Guns on Pegs so do get in touch for the full Calendar.

Hospitality

Again this varies from shoot to shoot. On full driven days all hospitality is of course included. Many do supply a breakfast roll and Elevenses but generally on the smaller days we all bring our own food and take lunch in the field together.

Topography

Obviously the topography varies on each Estate or Shoot we visit but a good description is provided in our calendar. Each day is very different and a wide selection of disciplines is available.

About the hosts

There is generally a Shoot Captain there on the each day alongside the Estate host to try and ensure that all the guns get an equal opportunity to shoot. We do not do overages on any of our shoots unless all the team shooting are in agreement.

As a newcomer, Rough Rovers couldn't have provided a better start to my driven shooting experience. Informative, welcoming, relaxed and a good laugh, the range of people I've met - both from Rough Rovers and the shoots themselves - have made for a thoroughly enjoyable few days and I couldn't recommend them more highly. I just wish I had more time to shoot...and to be fed!

Yet another truly fantastic day out with the Rough Rovers. Powys gave us stunning scenery with very challenging, fast moving high Partridge, including something close to, if not the best drive I have ever experienced. Highly recommended!

A well organised and varied roving syndicate with fantastic members and access to some of the very best ground for shooting in the UK. Already this season i have shot grouse, partridge, duck and pheasant on various shoots with Rough Rovers. Always good value and a fun day out. There will be something on the calendar for virtually all shooting preferences and budgets.

A brilliant shoot with locations across the area. Privileged to have shot what many have considered the worlds best partridge drive! A mix of types depending on estate/bag. Excellent and something for everyone.

Enjoyed several days fantastic shooting with the Rovers this season. Phil always puts on a great day and the members are always game for a laugh. Visited shoots across Wales and the Midlands and despite going for a swim (in full gear) in Wales - still had a fantastic season. Thanks.
