Rockinghams Shoot & Leapingwells Shoot encompass six farms, extending over 3000 acres of traditional Essex countryside, all within an hour of London. We are able to provide a real mix of excellent partridge ground, presenting them over hedgerows and out of specially planted cover crops across 2700 acres of arable farmland. Along with over 300 acres of forestry which has the ability to show testing snap shooting pheasants over gun rides in semi ancient woodland.

The days are hosted by Harry Bendall, owner and manager of both shoots and a local third generation gamekeeper, supported by his wife Jess and their loyal beating and picking up teams.

Our aim is to produce good quality birds within a relaxed friendly atmosphere ensuring that our clients can get the best possible experience out of there day.

We offer let days between 125-200 birds and we are happy to cater for teams of all abilities and experience.

Please note that we are not a VAT registered business and as such our price per bird does not include any VAT.

We look forward to welcoming both new and existing clients.

Hospitality

Refreshments break half way through the day to include a selection of soft/alcoholic drinks, a light spread is also included and on the colder days a soup/stew will be provided.

Topography

Most of our ground is typical Essex countryside, rolling arable fields with plenty of hedgerows to present our birds over. We do also benefit from some hilly terrain in places across the ground we shoot which we use to our advantage to shows some very good birds in the right conditions. Our woodland drives are particular popular for the fast paced snap shooting they offer.

Conservation Efforts

Here at Rockinghams we make every effort to run the shoot for the benefit of all the wildlife on the land we manage. A percentage of our game cover ground is allocated for wild bird mixes and pollen rich areas every year. Several acres of the land we manage also have countryside stewardship schemes in place.

We manage several hundred acres of woodland across the shoot which we are constantly improving for wildlife through felling and replanting, coppicing and ride creation and clearing. We also have a healthy population of muntjac which are manage sustainably every year.

We also strongly believe in feeding all year round for the benefit of all the wild birds on the shoot not just the game birds that survive the season. Alongside this feeding we run a thorough vermin control program.

About the hosts

I always had an ambition to run my own shoot throughout my childhood helping dad on the family shoot. So when the opportunity came along in 2017 to start my own shoot at Layer Marney Tower I jumped at the chance.

4 years later and we've expanded the shoot from 120 acres to over 3000. Days have increased from 50 birds up to anything between 125-200 birds. Last year my dad took a step back from running his shoot after nearly 30 years and we amalgamated the two businesses into what is now the Rockinghams Shoot.

Dad still has an active roll with the day to day running of the shoot and is always a big presence on the shoot days. Together with the support of my wife Jess and our friendly team we try our best to make sure teams have a relaxing, enjoyable and memorable days shooting.

A really good day's partridge shooting over beautiful Essex country. Particularly impressive organisation given this is only the second year they have been doing it at Rockinghams. The drives were really nicely laid out, with lots of variety and well executed by Harry and the team producing plenty of good birds (the actual bag reflective of the experience of the guns rather than volume of birds). I would certainly shoot there again.
