Birch Estate is a traditional agricultural Estate situated 5 miles south of Colchester, with very easy access from the A12 and Marks Tey railway station.

We shoot over 4,000 acres with 400 acres of woodland and 90 acres of game cover.

The Estate has been in the ownership of the same family for nearly 300 years and we have game records going back over 120 years. The shoot is mixed partridges and phesants, we are particularly well known for showing good and challenging partridges. We have some lovely countryside and interesting topography which produces exciting birds.

We have two syndicates and we let a handful of days per year. Guns are always assured of a friendly welcome on this family run Estate with charming shoot staff, good food and fun sporting entertainment.  We are very happy to try to meet any specific requirements that our guests have.

Hospitality

Upon arrival at the shoot you will be greeted with Tea/Coffee and a Bacon Roll, Elevenses is served after the 2nd drive which is normally hot soup and homemade sausage rolls, After the 4th drive a hot sit down lunch is taken back at the gun room.

Birds

Partridges are shown over tall hedges and large cover crops, we are lucky to have some undulating ground here at Birch which shows some testing pheasants too.

Topography

Some nice undulating ground is present here at Birch Estate.

Conservation Efforts

We are part of many countryside schemes to encourage the wild bird population.

The drive down to birch was very wet but as I arrived the rain stopped, I was there early but no worries I was shown to the shoot lodge where a welcome cup of tea was provided as was the bacon and sausage babs. We were given the team safety talk and off to the first drive the keeper and beaters did a fantastic job of getting very wet birds over us and good quality birds at that. After the third drive we stopped for elevenses again good quality and time for some leg pulling, we didn't stop for lunch as the time of year makes much more sense to shoot through and have a meal afterwards which again was very good. The birch estate did 5 drives which i think is better as it shares the pegs much more evenly. I had an excellent day from start to finish no rushing around a great team effort i will definitely be back next year

Mr. Myles Salmon

I Had a season at Birch Estate, fantastic hosts and great birds. I was made to feel very welcome and the host Nicolas made us feel part of the family. My wife worked our dog on one visit and she too was made to feel very welcome. Great Partridges , and interesting drives , wish I could go back but dates clashed with a farm shoot I also attend. Fully recommend this family experience, and dressed birds to take away from Steven the dedicated keeper was a nice touch. My thanks to you all wish I could be with you this season.
