Houghton Moor Shoot in the heart of East Yorkshire

Situated in 700 acres of woodland the biggest wood in the East riding the shoot has gone from strength to strength. A small syndicate shoot the wood fortnightly and have transformed the shoot into 130 plus bird shoot.

Houghton moor is a syndicated shoot who shoot 8 days per year and have 2 let days available for 8- 10 guns per day.

We provide approx 100-150 driven mixed bird day at £30/bird inc VAT. The day includes lunch and each gun must be affiliated to BASC or similar organisation and hold valid shotgun certificate.

We shoot over 500 acres of woodland and 200 acres arable land. We expect a mixed bag of duck, partridges and pheasants or just pheasants if preferred.

Houghton Moor is situated on the western edge of the Yorkshire Wolds at the head of a 3 valleys Newbald Dale that runs East towards Beverley.

For those who normally associate East Yorkshire with the chalk landscape of the Wolds, Houghton Moor and its immediate area comes as a surprise. The acid peaty soil on this ridge of Jurassic sandstone provides ideal conditions for rhododendrons, bracken and conifers. The rhododendrons add colour to the scene when in flower in early summer and provide perfect cover for our birds. Houghton moor is one of the largest woods in East Yorkshire, our first year provided us with some fantastic sport. Average syndicate day bags were in excess of 130 and the let days produced exceptionally well for our customers.

The shoot has gone from strength to strength since we took over 3 years ago. The 2013/14 season was our best season yet producing consistent bags of 140 to 150 and well presented birds which were sometimes too good for the guns.

We hope the 2014/15 season will be even better so why not come and take a driven day with us. You wont be dissapointed and you will be looked after from the minute you arrive to the minute you leave with true yorkshire hospitality.

So why not get in touch and take a day. Viewing of the shoot is also welcome if you wanted to come and take a look.

Mr Strangeway Dean

Had early day on partridge and duck with few pheasants, fantastic birds over wooded rides and keeper works very hard for a good days sport. The food is good quality and home made from his wife. You wouldnt think this new ownership is in its first season, as it has the feel of being run for decades. I will definitely be taking more days. Well done keeper!
