Oak Wood is situated in the heart of Beckley, which has had a wild boar population for more than 25 years. It is a mixed woodland, containing both broadleaved trees and conifers, as well as open spaces and ponds, which increase the attraction to the local wild boar.

It is also possible to combine some stalking with a boar outing, either beforehand or afterwards, either at Oak Wood or on a nearby farm just outside the village of Broad Oak Brede. The principal species is fallow and while the majority of animals to be taken are cull animals, there is the occasional trophy to be taken too.

Our wild boar shooting is undertaken at night-time from the relative comfort of purpose built high seats, which overlook a number of feed stations. All shooting is accompanied by the land owner, Mark Boulton, who will select which animals are to be culled. Generally only young animals (up to 2 years old) are shot and males wherever possible. More than one hunter at a time can be accommodated with sufficient prior notice. Similarly, there is plenty of room in the towers for an additional spectator.

Success as with all forms of shooting and hunting is not guaranteed, unlike the quality and taste of the quarry, which is to die for..............

Mr. Joseph Hana

I have been stalking with Mark over the past 2 years and was quite pleased when he responded positively to my wild boar query. I had shot boar in Africa in the past but never in Europe and was looking forward to the evening. Mark took me on a familiarisation walk of the area, showed me potential backstops and approaches as well to get my bearings and ranges in perspective. Mark also showed me his rifle and the night scope that he used plus range zero etc. We then returned to the high seat to settle for the evening and Mark briefed me on the land, the wild boar habits, what to expect etc. It became clear very quickly that I will not be able to use my rifles in the fading light and was very grateful when Mark offered me the use of his .270 with night scope and all the bells/whistles. To start, the boars did not show, however fallow deer walked into the field and Mark offered me to take the shot when if and when I am ready. The buck dropped on the spot and I was quite pleased with the outcome of the evening and prepared to leave. Mark however quietly asked me to settle down and wait. Is he a fortune teller, is he a prophet! Don't ask me as I will never be able to answer, as15 minutes later out of the maize field and 20 yards further from the dropped buck come this group of wild boar. Mark quietly asked me if I was comfortable with the distance and where to place my shot. Bang, and the boar dropped on the spot. What an evening. I couldn't have had a better outing anywhere. Mark is a gentleman and a professional of the highest order, safe and considerate. I completed the outing richer in knowledge and experience and I would recommend Mark without reservation.

I met up with Mark at around 5 pm and we inspected two of his woodland shooting sites before moving on to our venue for the evening, a high seat overlooking a large field of maize. Mark fully briefed me on how we were going to approach our site, move into our shooting position and manage the culling of a male boar. The high seat had command of four open areas where we had our best chance of a clear shot, if and when the opportunity arose. My chance came just on the last light of the day when a boar passed from the woodland edge and into the maize without me having any chance of sighting onto the pig, but alerted I was ready for the second animal when it followed through the field edge, Mark gave me the go ahead to take the shot, and as I was already tracking the animal I had a good bead and time to make a perfect shot. What a memorable outing, Mark is very friendly professional and besides briefing me fully on how we were going to manage the shoot he imparted a great deal of knowledge by answering my many questions. I highly recommend contacting Mark for an exceptional shooting experience.

Mark is definitely the man to contact if you're after UK wild boar. We spent a mild September evening in one of his comfortable, covered high seats in Sussex, seeing a total of around 20 boar and culling my first. Mark is a friendly, professional and knowledgeable guide. I'll definitely be booking with him again and would recommend him to anyone looking for a good value boar shooting experience.
