Good traditional shooting requires spectacular terrain, high and fast birds, easy access to pegs and planning to suit all skill levels. Craigadam ticks all the boxes. Richard Pickup owns Craigadam and runs a neighbouring estate, and is able to provide up to 5 days back-to-back shooting when required. Richard hosts all the days personally.
12,000 acres of mostly south facing drives with views over the Solway Firth and Almoness Peninsular. Craigadam has game crops, loose gullies, bracken banks and small woods which are all well roaded; well known drives include the Kings Chair, Crofts Quarry, Jean Dunns Wood and Fiddle Wood. At the other, there are mainly high rises, Almoness High Stand, Keys Hill, and Larches to name a few, with exceptionally good pheasants. The Almoness peninsular driver out over the Solway shore with superb partridge drives. We specialise in 150-400 bird days.
A driven day normally runs as follows:
At 9.15am tea and coffee and allocation of pegs
3-4 drives with a stop for sloe gin and champagne
A hearty lunch with wine and port

Afternoon tea with cakes and scones
Guests stay at Craigadam House which is central to the shoot. It has 10 luxury ensuite rooms with a billiard room and bar. The winners of Taste of Scotland Award source their produce from their own butchery on the estate.

Carlisle, Glasgow and Edinburgh are an easy distance for retail therapy. Rough shooting is also available with a variety of pheasant, partridge, duck, snipe and woodcock to be had.
Trains run regularly from London Euston to Carlisle and we can arrange collection from here if necessary.

Mr. Louis Browning
Since 2003 when I led a team to Craigadam on my first visit, I have gone back to shoot there 20+ times. Over the years, I have introduced a dozen or more guns to Craigadam; nearly all of them have returned more than once. Nothing - food, shooting, comfort, friendliness of staff, beaters, pickers-up, gamekeeper, or owners' efforts to please could be improved upon. If you haven't been here, you ought to give it a go.

I have known Richard and Celia Pickup for for over 20 years and have stayed at Craigadam many times. I have also shot with them and stalked roe. Without doubt they are dedicated to the task of providing the most hospitable stay and the best shooting arrangements and all with a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. For a truly memorable sporting and culinary experience - look no further than Richard and Celia and Craigadam and their shooting estates.
Miss C. Elizabeth Brummer
As a lady shooter from the States, I wanted a shoot with a variety of terrain and presentations. Craigadam has consistently delivered for my team. Our schedules have varied for the past ten years, but the quality of birds and hospitality has been consistently fine. Even the ace with a 28 bore has been accommodated. Richard and Celia have a sure touch as far as we are concerned. I'm looking forward to my fifth consecutive December visit.
Mr Colin Aitchison
I contacted Craigadam after seeing it displayed on Guns on Pegs. I can confirm it was supurb.Good quality as well as quantity as far as the partridge and pheasant were concerned. Richard Pickup ran a very proffesional , however laid back day, resulting in many laughs as well as some serious shooting. The accomodation and food was excellent, you were made to feel part of the family. I will certainly be booking further days.

I have shot at this estate for twenty years seeing it get better and better every year. I am looking forward to my shooting trip in December, the accomodation and hospitality are second to none and the birds driven over the varying scottish landscape are very well presented and in my opinion suitable for all skill levels. The Roe deer stalking is also very good with the team on the estate being very understanding and informative to both novice and experianced stalkers alike.
