The Winscombe shoot is a commercial high bird shoot in West Dorset (formerly known as The Hincknowle Shoot) offering days of up to 300 bird mixed bags of Partridge, Pheasant and Duck.

The topography at Winscombe is perfect for showing some excellent driven pheasant and partridge. The drives are based around eight cover crops and various woodland drives totalling somewhere in the region of fifteen drives. The aim being to shoot four to five drives per day with a stop for elevenses and lunch followed by afternoon tea to end the day, all catered for in our shoot lodge.

Mr. Jolyon Fallon

Having booked two days shooting for our shoot syndicate - a 100 bird driven day on the Friday and a 50 bird walked up day - to celebrate 10 years of the shoot syndicate, we were all looking forward to an enjoyable and successful couple of days. Sadly this didn’t turn out to be the case - there were very few birds to shoot at, despite the best efforts of a hard working shoot team of beaters and pickers up. The most disappointing aspect of that, despite numerous calls and emails to Ian the shoot host, we still have not bee told how many we show on each day. To date Ian has refused to return our calls. He had previously indicated that, as we were more than likely well under our target bags, we would be due a rebate but so far nothing has been forthcoming. Overall feeling is that this is not the way to manage or host a commercial shoot and I would be very reluctant to recommend Ian or the shoot. On the plus side, the beating team worked hard to make the day as successful as they could (difficult to achieve when there is obviously insufficient quarry), and the gun bus and elevenses were both excellent.

Although this is a new shoot you would not think so by how smoothly it all ran. Keeper Ian and host Simon made everyone feel very welcome, great team of beaters, pickers up and superb home cooked lunches too. Relatively small shoot meant no long waits between drives and the steep slopes and high pines produced some cracking birds. Definitely worth a return visit.

Brilliant day well hosted by Ian the head keeper and Simon. A pleasure to watch the picking up and beating teams in action several different breeds of gun dogs used on the day including the usual labs and spaniels as well as flat coats and goodies. Fabulous birds in a fabulous setting
