Warleigh Barton is an award winning family run small shooting estate in beautiful Devonshire countryside providing a range of sporting birds to suit everyone in a backdrop to take your breath away alongside a warm and friendly atmosphere, highly skilled picker uppers and beaters, exceptional hospitality that see our guns returning year after year.
Hospitality
We will greet you with a cup of coffee and a bacon roll in the 15th century Tithe Barn before a short briefing and to pull pegs. We then load into the Gun bus expecting to be away for the morning. After two drives we might have a glass of port or sloe gin. A third drive and then we return to the barn for a glass of Cava and for a light lunch. Our chefs - Four Elements Catering will prepare a delicious lunch. hot soup and a roll alongside some delicious satay chicken skewers, sausage rolls and a slice of home made quiche. We then typically do a further one or two drives before coming back to our Tithe Barn at about 3.30pm for a spread of Tea and Cake or a cold cider depending on your preference!
Birds
The undulations of the land and the proximity of our plantations provide some exceptional birds that challenge the best shots but we also produce a range which will allow newcomers to feel confident.
Topography
Warleigh Barton Shoot is in a unique geographical position with 2 boundaries alongside the Tamar and Tavy Estuary. The natural undulations of the land allow us to produce a range of birds, some of which are exceptional and consistently entertain the best shots alongside birds which leave newcomers feeling confident. The shoot has been continually improved over the past 15 years providing cover from a diverse mix of trees, miscanthus, blends of sunflower, mustard, kale and sorghum in strategic patches. Our veteran trees, strategically planted plantations and cover crops, the proximity to the Tamar and Tavy confluence, the undulation of the land, and the water course which runs through the heart of the farm create a unique backdrop.
Conservation Efforts
The land at Warleigh has been in a mid tier Countryside Stewardship scheme for over 15 years but are now taking much bigger steps to improve the biodiversity across the farm through tree planting, bird boxes, moving arable land into legume fallow. Our cultivation techniques and rotations see soil health as top priotity. We host migrating Osprey in the late Summer and have put up x3 nests to increase the chance of also having nesting Osprey. We have appeared on National TV twice in the past year. Conservation is at the heart of all our decision making and the shoot is managed sensitively to attempt to weave pheasants into the landscape with minimal impact. We don't shoot woodcock, snipe or jays as we now understand their contribution to the eco system on this farm.

An enjoyable day had by all, great conditions and very picturesque. A last minute cancellation meant there was a space for our team so we jumped at the chance. We all had plenty of shooting and some fantastic birds over us. A mixture of pheasant and partridge gave a nice challenge. A great atmosphere, Katherine was a fantastic host and Dave the keeper put on a great day for us and really knows his stuff. Elevenses and drinks were delicious. I would highly recommend this shoot and we are already looking at booking 1 or 2 days next year! Thank you.

It is quite something when the Devon weather throws everything at you and not only do the birds fly well but you also have an amazing time ! Well done to the charming Katherine and her team the day could have only be better if it had stopped raining !! A shoot to return to soon without doubt ! Great Devon topography for challenging birds!

The sort of shoot one would prefer others didn't know about, to keep it a hidden secret! Found via GoP and everything we hoped for - and more. Katherine was charming and informative, perfect at guiding guns and encouraging throughout. The birds were perfect, even on a still day - enough for everyone and a great variety of heights, including the cloud-scrapers one of our team likes to demonstrate on! Even with the very carefully CV19 rules and enforcement, we had a great day and hope to return next year.

Excellent sporting birds considering the weather was heavy drizzle, wind and it being early on in the season. The quantity of birds and placement of pegs/drives was also brilliant. Hospitality and welcome when arriving at the shoot was spot on, would of been nice to stop for a light bite to eat at Elevenses along with the sloe gin in the field, but that didn’t matter too much considering the weather. The light lunch certainly hit the spot I must say. So Thank you to Katherine, Dave the keeper and the rest of team!

A fantastic set up, in beautiful countryside. Katherine and team presented really good birds throughout the day and worked hard to make sure we all had a lot of sport and got the bag in challenging conditions, with excellent hospitality throughout - she gets the balance just right between professional set up and relaxed family shoot. A thoroughly enjoyable day.
