The Durrans Shoot
Privately run working shoot comprising 3 farms on the outskirts of Totnes in the South Hams area of Devon. It is a well-established, friendly, shoot which has been run by the same team for 15 years.
It offers driven pheasant shooting set among long established mixed woodland and game cover. With a choice of 8 drives offering an interesting mix of woodland, open country and riverside settings. The topography of the land lends itself to variety of shooting with high and fast birds coming off the higher ground over the steep valleys. When a good wind blows down here it will put the best guns to the test.
A typical shoot day meets at 0830 with a view to an 0930 start. Typically we will have 3 drives and then stop for elevenses. After elevenses another 3 drives and back to the local pub for a late lunch and a drink.
This is a working shoot and our team do the keepering. We put down 1500 pheasant poults and shoot 10 days through the season with 7 in the line aiming for a bag of 50 each day. Our team alternate between shooting and working in the beating line.
For the first time this year we are selling some days as some of our regular team are not able to participate. As paying guns you will shoot all day and the price includes lunch at the pub and a couple of pints. Please bring some elevenses and a drink for yourself.
Some of the terrain is steep and does requires a degree of mobility and fitness. If you enjoy a bit of exercise while shooting then this will be a good day for you.
We will need to see evidence of insurance and a shotgun license before the day begins.
