Pheasant

Great Warham Shoot is located in North Devon, and under new ownership for a couple of years now, we are carrying on with improving the shoot for our guest and teams of guns going forward. We can cater and show birds for all abilities of guns on this small compact shooting estate that would like to come and experience this lovely part of North Devon. The shoot is ring fenced by the river Torridge that gives the property a natural barrier on most sides.

Hospitality

We try and use local produce where possible. Hospitality is carried out by a local chef with teas and coffee available on arrival, and elevenses are made up of soup and fresh bread, sausage rolls plus other warm snacks, teas / coffees, sloe gin /champers or soft drinks are available. Shoot dinners are cooked by our local chef too along with some fine wines to wash it all down with, this makes for a great end to the days shooting sat around the dinning table and fire reflecting on the days shooting.

Topography

Great Warham Shoot has the benefit of the river Torridge being at 30meters above sea level all around the property, running up to 110meters above sea level at the highest point, This allows our keeper Martin to have the best starting point to drive the birds from and over the mature oak woodland on the property, this in turn giving the guns some good quality high sporting birds.

Conservation Efforts

The conservation on the property is something that we are enhancing at Great Warham going forward. This includes planting different cover crops to reduce the need for pesticides use, with nurse companion crops to combat this, (Flee Beetle on Kale), More flower and fertility clover/Phacelia mixes to increase insects and bees onto the property, sunflowers are a great success at doing this. creating wild flower meadows in the future and planting wildlife tree corridors around the farm will also help this.

About the hosts

Your host for the day is Neil Hart. I have always been involved in the countryside and farming from an early age due to my mum being a farmers daughter and dad working in the agricultural sector. Working on the farm during the school holidays or just walking the hedgerows with the gun that is what I always wanted to do. Any shoot day I would be beating with my uncle on the farm. I worked on a farm for ten years, before moving up to working and managing a farm in Northamptonshire for 25 years that had a shoot on it, I got involved running this shoot fulltime working out and drilling all the cover crops to give the best sporting birds for the syndicate and guest guns to try their hand at, this included hosting teams of guest guns, and placing guns, alongside working with our gamekeeper too.
