Offering an exciting day in any weather, the atmosphere is warm and friendly. The lunch is home cooked and excellent. Try Brownstone shot to experience one of the best shoot days of the season. The Gamekeeper and his team are helpful and friendly and create a great, relaxed atmosphere.
We pride ourselves on delivering a shoot day that combines first-class sport with genuine hospitality, ensuring every guest enjoys a memorable experience from start to finish.
Drawing on more than 30 years of experience, we understand what Guns value most: well-presented sporting birds, beautiful countryside, good company, and a day that runs smoothly and professionally. Above all, we aim to create an enjoyable atmosphere where everyone can relax, shoot well, and leave with fond memories of their day.
Set amongst rolling countryside, lakes, valleys and carefully managed woodland, our pheasant shoot, with the occasional partridge drive, offers traditional sport in a stunning setting. Our varied drives are designed to provide challenging yet rewarding shooting, presenting strong, well-flighted birds across a diverse landscape. Whether you are an experienced Gun or new to driven shooting, safety, sportsmanship and enjoyment remain at the heart of everything we do.
Supported by year-round conservation and habitat management, the shoot combines quality sport with a commitment to sustaining the local countryside and wildlife for future generations.
We are fortunate to have a wonderful syndicate and a friendly group of Guns who return to shoot with us season after season. While many familiar faces join us each year, newcomers of all ages are always warmly welcomed and quickly made to feel part of the team.
A great shoot is about more than the sport itself. We pride ourselves on creating a relaxed and inclusive atmosphere, filled with friendship, laughter and the sort of good-natured banter that makes the day as enjoyable as the shooting.
Everything you need for a successful day is provided, including gators and buggies for travelling between drives, hospitality throughout the day and, of course, a celebratory glass of bubbly to round things off.
As our guest, you can look forward to excellent sport, stunning surroundings and a thoroughly enjoyable day in the countryside. We always shoot over the bag and never charge overages, giving you complete confidence when booking with us.
The testimonials and reviews from our guests speak for themselves. We would be delighted to hear from you and discuss how we can make your next shoot day one to remember.
Hospitality
Hospitality is at the heart of every shoot day. Guns begin in the Pavilion with tea, coffee and a warming glass of sloe gin before heading to the first drive.
Elevenses are served at the peg, with homemade soup, sausage rolls, sloe gin and port to keep everyone refreshed without interrupting the sport.
Lunch is weather dependent: on fine days we break before the afternoon drives; in poorer conditions we continue shooting and dine afterwards. Either way, Guns can look forward to a three-course home-cooked meal, accompanied by wine, sloe gin and port, served in our much-loved onsite pub, The Dog and Duck.
Birds
We pride ourselves on presenting quality birds that are well bred, well reared and perfectly suited to our estate. Living in the varied woodland, valleys and open countryside, they develop into strong, sporting birds that provide a wide range of flight lines and testing opportunities.
As the season advances, the birds grow wiser, stronger and higher, offering increasingly challenging and rewarding sport throughout the year.
Topography
The Brownstone Estate is set within beautiful rolling countryside, featuring picturesque lakes, wooded valleys and far-reaching views across the surrounding landscape. The varied terrain not only creates a stunning backdrop for a day's shooting but also allows us to offer a wide range of drives, from steady sporting birds to more challenging, high-flying opportunities.
One of the estate's great strengths is that guests can enjoy the beauty of the countryside without compromising on comfort. The majority of pegs are easily accessible, and our fleet of gators helps ensure that Guns can move comfortably between drives and make the most of everything the estate has to offer.
Conservation Efforts
We really try to build on conservation throughout the year and work on building habitats which are so important to us and building Natural England is a joy and a pleasure with tree planting and adding ponds and lakes and bird foods throughout
About the hosts
The shoot days are hosted by Michael Hockin, with help from Mark Harding, Diane Hockin, The Gamekeeper, John Jewell and of course Sandra and her team in the kitchen. They create a relaxed and professional atmosphere, so you can enjoy the day comfortably and safely. We have all been working so hard towards the season and really enjoy the Shoot days knowing all that hard work has paid off.
