Bretby Park Estate extends to some 2,000 acres of mixed arable, grass and mature mixed woodland. There has been extensive planting of game crops over the last 20 years and new Woodland planting. The estate boasts wonderful undulating hills - a hidden gem in this part of the world with a string of lakes in the valley bottom adding to it's beauty.
Partridge Shooting is an excellent example of traditional sport, with birds shown over high belts and rolling valleys and pheasants are of medium difficulty. Partridge only days start in mid-September before we offer mixed days with partridge and pheasants later on in the season. This well respected, Historic shoot prides itself on producing high-quality, good fun days with excellent food. Make-up days are put together with up to 9 guns in the line and Ladies Days can be organised too and even boys days. Days can be booked ranging in bag size from 350 (an experienced team of guns) down to smaller days of 100. A Polaris can be used to transport guns from their vehicles to their pegs. Matt Smith is the Head Keeper. Guns travel around in their own 4x4’s or in the hosts 4x4.
Bretby Park has a strong shooting tradition on the estate as it was the principle home of the Earl of Chesterfield and passed by marriage to the Earl of Carnavon where he considered it to be his partridge shoot whilst Highclere was his pheasant shoot. The estate has been in the same family since the 1900's when it was bought by Sir Herbert Wragg and by descent to Richard Perkins and now his daughter Charlotte Macdonald of Sleat who runs, hosts and acts as Shoot Captain.
Easily accessible from both the M1 (20mins away) Ashby- de- la- Zouch turn off and the M40 (15minutes) and Birmingham and East Midlands airports.Close to Derby and Burton-on-Trent.
The season starts in mid- September with our first partridge only days and we progress through to shooting pheasants and partridge on our mixed days.

on the day traffic from all directions to the shoot held up most people and caused delays but Charlotte was most accommodating in delaying the start. She had planned to do five drives with a break for lunch after three drives, as the weather worsened she took the decision to shoot through and changed from five drives to four, the bag was achieved with some wonderful partridge being presented seeming to take forever to reach the guns but were very deceptive with the wind behind them. Would I shoot here again? I certainly would the quality of the birds plus the flexibility of the shoot staff enabled us to get into our transport as the weather turned to heavy rain without spoiling a great day

I am in my second season at Bretby park both as a shooting gun and as an agent for single and teams of guns of which I have found the quality of shooting to be excellent throughout the day. A shoot for all abilities of game shooters and the hospitality is second to none.Good friendly beaters /pickers up and the keeper Glen only wants to please by putting on consistent birds on all drives Spectacular views in idilic setting of a game shoot. Easy access from all major roads in the Midlands.
