The Underley Estate is set in the stunning Lune Valley, on the edge of The Lake District and The Yorkshire Dales. The estate is located approximately 15 miles north of Lancaster, and 9 miles east of Kendal. The River Lune, a productive migratory salmon and sea trout river, runs through the estate and forms a stunning backdrop for some of the drives.
Underley can offer single and double days. With nearly 30 drives laid out over 4,000 acres, there is a wide variety of shooting available. With 14,000 birds released we cater for anywhere between 100 and 350 pheasants per day. Double gun shooting and/or loaders can be arranged upon request.
Each day will consist of 5-6 drives, made up from a mixture of cover crops and mature woodland. Gun stands vary from open fields, to wooded rides, and even the gravel banks of the River Lune. We can offer a wide variety of pheasants from drives such as Valentines, Wild Garden, Hunger Hills, Hospital Wood and Stoneriggs. The Lune Valley offers lovely rolling countryside for showing some challenging birds. No two drives are the same, offering a variety of sport, from snap shooting to high, fast, curling birds.
Your day is hosted personally by myself. We normally gather at 9am for coffee. Underley is a family shoot, and as such we try and make all our guests feel as though they are on a family day. We normally stop for "elevenses" after a couple of drives. Lunch is taken at Underley Grange, before returning to the shooting field for the afternoon. Alternatively we can shoot through, with a long lunch at the end of the day.
4x4 vehicles are helpful, though not absolutely necessary, as transport can be arranged.
Dogs are more than welcome. In fact, picking up is actively encouraged throughout the day.
Fully catered accommodation is available at Underley Grange, as well as a number of very good local pubs and hotels. Underley Grange offers the opportunity to have your own fully catered and staffed house party at an all inclusive price. Our family home has recently been refurbished, and offers 5 star accommodation for up to 16 people, with 9 bedrooms and 8 bathrooms.

We recently formed a roaming syndicate and upon advice from chums we' were put in touch with Phil. It has to be said that he and all the team at Underley surpassed themselves. The house, food and hospitality were magnificent and set the tone of our trip. Shoot day arrived and from start to finish we had a truly smashing experience with good challenging birds that made great sport. I would recommend Underley to any team who want to enjoy all aspects of a day from accommodation, food, good wines and great shooting. Phil and his team offer everything that a roaming team expect and do it in the most relaxed and convivial fashion. We'll worth a repeat trip.

I attended a shoot at Underley on 3 January 2013 and have to say that the shooting, hospitality and the team were all fantastic. Phil who manages the shoot is a very personable and erudite individual. The birds were excellent, even when the weather took a turn for the worse in the afternoon, but then this was Cumbria.
