The Graythwaite Shoot is a family run shoot in the heart of the English Lake District. It is bordered by Lake Windermere to the east, Grizedale Forest to the west and has 5 unspoilt miles of the coast of Lake Windermere. The shoot covers just over 5,000 acres and it offers drives of varying diversity. Not limited to but including woodland stands, open fell and some particularly testing driven birds that are more akin to those of Devon and Cornwall. All shooting parties are hosted from either Graythwaite Hall or Silverholme Manor, dependent on client requirements. The Graythwaite Shoot offers those a traditional day’s shooting only accepting full teams. The limited availability on days sets us apart from the larger shoots and allows us to maintain a high standard of hospitality and hosting. Woodland Red deer and Roe stalking is also available.
Hospitality
The hospitality at Graythwaite has always been a talking point for guests. With a cellar that has been collected over many years and our private chef, we certainly don’t disappoint. We host our guests so they feel as though they are staying in their own home and not in a commercial environment. With the limited amount of days that are available for let, it means that we can concentrate our efforts on creating an experience far from that of a commercial shoot.
The houses are both fully staffed, Silverhome offers 9 en-suite double rooms Graythwaite Hall is steeped in history and some of the more traditional guests prefer to stay there.
The food is all locally sourced and menus can be discussed prior to the day.
Loaders and cartridges provided upon request. Double guns if required.
Topography
The Graythwaite topography has been described by guests in the past as dramatic; the scenery is stunning, with most stands in full view of a lake. Graythwaite offers a diverse array of drives with varying topography: From birds being driven over 200 year old stands of English oak , guns stood in gullies, to pheasants being driven off high fell ground back to the lowlands, and everything in between. We have signature drives that have been compared to the best that the "high bird" shoots can offer. All the birds are hand fed and are pulled in to each drive immediately prior to the guns getting on to their pegs.
About the hosts
George Sandys, 35, runs the shoot and hosts all the days. He is the middle son of Myles and Camilla Sandys, who have both been running shooting parties at Graythwaite for 40 years. George is incredibly passionate about the shoot and strives to create an experience where guests feel they are far from that of a commercial shoot and more akin to a private family affair.

Mr. Tom Leeming
George Sandys hosts a very enjoyable day. Second time I have shot there with friends. George and the team are extremely welcoming and put on some excellent drives with a variety of challenging birds. Delicious lunch to finish and 8 very happy guns. The Cottage was also very comfortable. We will be back!
