LocationThe Philleigh Shoot is located in the heart of the stunning Roseland Peninsula in southern Cornwall. It is a family run shoot and our main emphasis is on creating a fun and relaxed atmosphere where people can come and enjoy quality shooting whilst taking in the beautiful views and forgetting the stresses of every day life.
We are very lucky with our topography down here in that we have some deep rolling valleys which allow us to present very high quality pheasant and partridge. We have 18 main drives which are a mixture of woodland and cover crops and we try to do some of both in a day so that teams get the chance to see as much of the shoot as possible, as said before the scenery down here is spectacular.
Quarry Species
Pheasant and Partridge are the main quarry but the shoot is in very close proximity to the river Fal which means there are also duck present, and woodcock and snipe also feature regularly in our bags. The woodcock and snipe are not specifically driven but do appear in some of the pheasant drives meaning on a day at the Philliegh shoot there is plenty of variety on offer. The pheasant and partridge are all reared here on the farm so we know our birds are top quality flying strains.
The shoot day
We usually ask guns to arrive with us around 9.15 for coffee. This gives everyone chance to meet and make introductions, My father and myself (Will and James Palmer) will be awaiting your arrival. There will then be a short health and safety briefing as well as letting everyone know the form for the day ahead. Once the formalities have been completed we load up into our custom built shoot trailer and make our way to the first drive.
We aim to do three drives in the morning and come in for lunch around 1pm and then go out again and do two more drives. Many teams like to go out in the afternoon just for a chance to walk off lunch! (Mums cooking is legendary!!). Once the Shooting has finished, we head back where there will be tea and cakes aplenty awaiting our return ( if you have any room left from lunch) Then a little splash of something stronger for those who would like. Everyone can then make their way home at their leisure.
Our days range from 100-300 bird days and we can cater for teams of 7 - 10 guns.
Accommodation
There are plenty of hotels available within a short drive of the shoot. Alternatively we run a bed and breakfast here at the farm if you really want to cut down on the traveling.
As I stated in the first paragraph, our main aim is to create a relaxed and enjoyable days shooting and we are a very flexible team and can cope with most scenarios, so if their is anything you would particularly like (as an example, to shoot through and have lunch at the end of the day) then this is no problem just let us know.
We do not shoot on specific days of the week so if you have a date in mind then please don't hesitate to contact us. You can email us with any questions.
