Larchfield Estate

Larchfield Estate is a stunning 600 acre estate set in the heart of the rolling County Down countryside, just 15 minutes from Belfast City Centre, 1hr 30 from Dublin or 30 minutes from either Belfast City or Belfast International airport. There has been a superb family shoot here for over 40 years which has grown over time and is now sells a few let days each year. We believe in truly, good sporting birds where guns really are tested, and the enjoyment of the day as a whole. With a full time game keeper and a team of helpers we put down c 5,000 birds a year and normally shoot 150 bird days, though this number, at the clients agreement and the gamekeepers discretion, can be increased.

Driven pheasant shooting at Larchfield will test all guns with some truly spectacular drives - it was almost as if this estate was originally planted with shooting in mind! Recent additional land purchases and hardwood planting on top of the hills show some spectacular birds. The scenery of this private parkland estate is stunning and will greatly add to the experience for all guns.

Guns will meet Gavin Mackie the owner and shoot organiser for the day in the hall of the main house (which dates from 1750 and is usually kept private by the family) for coffee and safety chat. Guns are then assigned a dedicated picker up and are transported via shoot bus to each drive before returning to the house for drinks, soup and homemade pheasant samosas around midday.

When recharged they will return to shooting a few more testing drives (usually 5-7 total in a day) before retiring to the house for drinks in the formal drawing room. Lunch can be catered for in either (the teams’ choice) the grand dining room or the very popular and unique old kitchens in the basement which are truly atmospheric and full of antique items. Any dietary requirements do let us know.

Pre lunch drinks, a 3 course hearty lunch with good wines and port are all included within the price - we believe in entertaining our guests well and not rushing to get them out of the house!

There is a professional team on site at Larchfield to help with planning travel, accommodation (2 self catering properties on site) etc. if required.
