PLEASE ENQUIRE WITH DATES THAT SUIT YOU!

Cefngwyn Hall shoot was set up by Charles Grisedale on his farm showing quality driven duck over a variety of habitats, now entering our 50th season! All days are run by Charles.

A few miles inland, the shoot is situated on floating bog, marshland/wetland, grassland. There are 45+ ponds and lakes on the shoot making it ideal habitat for duck.

We charge a flat rate for our days. Teams (10) can expect to fire 1,000 - 1,200 shots over the day. Most teams fire more it depends on the pace you go at. In our eyes a competent team should be achieving a bag of 300 birds based on the shot count.

Bags typically range from 220 to 400, the wildfowl are always the same - brilliant. It's really just up to the team of guns and their ability! NO OVERAGES !!! If a good team of guns are shooting well and not pricking the birds that are too far away, we see it as a pleasure to watch and would rather see a few more in the bag.

Guns meet in the house by 09.30 for coffee, up to three drives take place in the morning. Lunch is provided, usually beef from our award winning grass fed South Devon cattle. Our cattle are born, raised, hung and butchered on site.

Two drives follow in the afternoon, with tea/coffee (or something stronger) and home made cakes to end the day.

Due to location most wildfowl on the west coast call in throughout the season. As the habitat on the shoot is ideal for duck, species seen can include: Mallard, Teal, Widgeon, Pintail, Shoveler, Tufted duck, Goldeneye, Canada goose, Greylag.

Birds are selectively reared on site at our well established game farm that has a Nationwide reputation for producing the highest/wildest flying duck available. Birds are released on the pools in the early summer months long before the season from as young as 3 weeks old and as early as May! This allows the birds to join the large numbers of wild duck on the ponds, and are reared in the wild with zero human contact. This allows the birds to become high flying, challenging ducks that don't look back !

Truly unlike any driven duck you will have shot and seen before, NO TAME CIRCLING DUCK HERE !!! You will not find yourself out on a peg in an open grass field with tame birds circling you for another go, quite the opposite.

Ducks fly high and fast from all directions, fast reloading and quick barrels are needed. Truly sporting birds that are a pleasure to shoot and watch going over the line of guns.

£1,000 per gun for the 26/27 season.

Large selection and range of Hotels and B&Bs close by to suit every group/individual.

Non shooting guests and dogs are welcome, please let us know exact numbers for lunch in advance.

Single guns, smaller parties and full parties are welcome. Shooting to suit you !

"For the connoisseur, for those in the know, there is one duck shoot in this land of ours which transcends all others"."The birds blend into a whirling confusion of cloud scraping duck, the greater part climbing to 50 - 70 yards or more". (Tony Jackson, SHOOTING TIMES)

Many years ago we tagged 500 of our mallard. Tags were returned to us from; Dublin, Anglesey, Somerset, and Hereford. Thus proving the calibre and quality of our birds. We shoot from September until the end of January. Our food bill doesn't drop until November as so many additional Wild Duck come in. It is no exaggeration to say the skies are black.

All days are hosted by Charles in a friendly yet professional manner.

We look forwards to hearing from you. Please enquire for any date in the season that may be of interest to you.

Hospitality

Coffee in the house on arrival. Drink of port after second drive. Very good lunch in the house, usually our own beef. Home made cakes, drinks at the end of the day.

Birds

Our birds get up and go and do not hang around for a second look. All heights, some drives coming from all directions due to the amount of pools/water available to them. We shoot over a variety of habitats, so all drives tend to have a different look and feel about them. Regards the birds themselves, excellent eating produce as never out of food.

Topography

West Wales , with Cardigan Bay on one side, it is a lovely rural place to come to . Beautiful scenery, friendly people. We shoot over a mix of floating bog, wetland, grassland.

Conservation Efforts

Our farm is dedicated to try and save the Welsh Lapwing from extinction, the money to fund this project comes from our duck shooting. We have fenced our entire farm/shoot against foxes/badgers by means of a 7 ft fox proof fence with electric around the entire property to remove ground predation. Legal predator control and habitat management is high on our agenda, mainly aimed to provide a safe nesting site for what is left of the local Lapwing population.

Myself and a team of 9 other guns visited the shoot on Monday. The feel of the day was relaxed and very welcoming, the hosts wanted to put on a brilliant day for all. There were 5 drives throughout the day and the showing of birds was fantastic. We had a full range of shooting experience in our team, from 1st day out up to 40+ years and there was birds to cater for all. Highly recommend a visit to this shoot.

We visited the shoot on Monday 24 November with a mixed team, some of us shoot over 30 days a year and some just a few days. For one gun it was his first day shooting game. Charles and his team really could not have done more to make sure that everyone enjoyed their day, from arranging loaders/coaches for the less experienced guns to ensuring that the amount of ducks meant that there really was something for everyone. The hospitality provided by Liz was also superb. We are already planning to go back again next year.

We shot here as a team of 9 guns with 2 other guns joining to make the day. Charles and Liz were very welcoming and informative throughout the day. We were against the weather with wind speeds in excess of 40km/hr and intermittent rain showers. The ducks were plentiful, high and fast. As a team, I think we did very well to shoot just over 5:1 as previous teams were nearer the 6:1 mark. These Ducks are a real challenge in such conditions with late season experience added in. Charles and his team did a great job, also battling the elements, and gave us a real day to remember.

Always a fantastic day at Cefngwyn with Charles and Duncan, lots of high quality ducks and plenty of shooting. Booked another 2 days for this season so far. Not your average ducks
