Pheasant

Ayton Castle and Dunglass Estate offers some really challenging shooting on very high pheasants at competitive prices.

The shoots cover some 6,000 acres in the Scottish Borders. 45-60 min. drive from Edinburgh airport.

150-400 bird days are now available at Ayton Castle and Dunglass Estate. Single days or back to back days. Accommodation at Dunglass Estate is available.

Guns meet for coffee in the morning with a typical day consisting of six or seven drives with a break for elevenses and a stop for lunch around 1.00pm.

Being coastal the prevailing winds can sometimes play the game “how fast can pheasants really fly?”as guns see them whiz by at MACH 1.

Overall Ayton Castle and Dunglass Estate shoot is offering good sporting birds at a great price for all to enjoy. A typical driven shoot day itinerary includes:

8.45am - Meet and greet – coffee and a chat covering safety and the plan of action for the day.

9.00am - Off for the first of 2 drives.

10.30am - Quick pit stop for refreshments and a bite to eat.

11.00am - Two more drives before lunch.

12pm.Lunch time – For driven days guns take lunch and refreshments in the Old Dairy at Dunglass or in the Cottage at Ayton.

1pm - Depending on the bag and size off the day off to the last drive or two.

3.30pm - End of day chat, refreshments and a chance for guns to meet all the helpers involved in the day - present guns with a brace(s) of birds to take home.

Very good day. Mega winds which made it even better. Would highly recommend for anyone wanting high birds.

Dunglass is an exceptional shoot with unparalleled terrain and challenging and rewarding shooting. Shot there last Monday for second time in two years and enjoyed every minute of the day, Tor and his team produce quality birds throughout every drive with varying stands where some snap shooting in and amongst the high trees made for a pleasant change from traditional driven high birds. Does require a good level of fitness for guns as there is some challenging terrain to overcome to get to your peg, however well worth the effort and I believe there are mules to get you to your peg if needed. Thanks to all, a truly great day...

A very well organised but completely relaxed shoot providing excellent birds over outstanding terrain. Thor is very easy to deal with and clearly works hard to ensure you have a good day. I did a 325 mile round trip to get to Ayton and would do it again tomorrow. I have no hesitation in recommending this shoot. The fact that the birds were too good for me wasn't Thor's fault !!
