With over 2000 acres of Ayrshire parkland, woodland and rolling meadows, Carnell Estates provides a magnificent setting for a shooting party. The Carnell Shoot is well over a 100 years old.

The 15th century main house is renowned for its luxury accommodation, great hospitality and fun. Sitting within spectacular gardens the house is very private.

A main day usually consists of three drives, 11s around the fire-pit by the main house, out for a further drive before returning to the house for drinks then lunch. After lunch, we try to get in two drives but on days with shorter light, it may be one. Bags vary between 200-500 per day. With quality, high driven pheasants and partridges, back to back days can be arranged with over night accommodation in the house.

The house is comfortably furnished with elegant, log-fired reception rooms. There are 10 bedrooms for guests with king or twin beds each having its own bathroom.

Next season, we will be offering a few mini-driven days in the outside woods with bags from 70-150 birds per day for up to 8 guns.

The Estates have been home to the Findlay Family for several hundred years and now home to Micky Findlay and his partner Adrienne Eastwood. They are both on hand to ensure fantastic hospitality is had whether for a group of friends or a corporate day.

Hospitality

When the guns are staying in the house as guests, a full household staff including our excellent Chef will be onhand to look after your party. For main day shoots, a delicious 3 course lunch is served in the dining room. Smaller days have access to a Bothy Dining Room but need to bring a packed lunch.

For guns travelling from afar and not taking the main house, there are also several one bedroom cottages available for rental.

Topography

The Estates include 2000 acres of woodlands, rolling countryside, farmland and parkland with two miles of the River Cessnock running through providing a varied choice of drives which are easily accessible. For those with any walking difficulties, an off-road buggy can be available. There are multiple duck ponds throughout the estate.

Conservation Efforts

The Estate team are well aware of their need to consider conservation in their daily tasks be it the housekeeping team, the groundsman or the gamekeepers. The buildings are heated by biomass wood-chip boilers and we also utilise both wind energy and solar power.

The shoot allows and encourages us to manage the woodlands and river banks. This year, we are planting two new woodland areas of nearly a hundred acres of mixed native trees.

About the hosts

Micky Findlay grew up at Carnell with his parents before moving to London for many years. He returned to Carnell with his young family in 2001 and has been running the Estate since then. Micky and Adrienne "aim" to be relaxed and friendly hosts.
