BASC Highlight The Need For Dog Insurance

BASC Highlight The Need For Dog Insurance

BASC · 20 Sep 2017

As we look forward to the start of the pheasant season, have we forgotten something?

Ok, let’s do a quick check:

Shooting dates confirmed?  – yes

Gun cleaned and serviced? – yes

Cartridges ordered and stocks replenished? - yes

Check shooting suit has not ‘shrunk’ over Summer and still fits? – yes

So, all set to go then? But what have you forgotten? Most of you reading this will have a gundog, maybe not a perfectly trained potential field trial champion, but never the less a long standing shooting companion that shares your peg, or helps you in with picking up or beating; a companion that compliments and enhances every shooting, beating and picking up day.

But have you checked the feed you will be giving them as they work through the season?
Have you checked to make sure they are covered under a decent insurance policy in case of injury and the consequent vets fees?

What has BASC been up to in the last month or so?

It’s been busy that’s for sure, not least of all planning for our presence at the main political party conferences coming up. We must focus on getting the message across to politicians and those that advise them that shooting is safe, economically important and delivers significant environmental benefit. The focus recently has been on grouse shooting and BASC have been lobbying hard on this issue. For more information on this see here.

Similarly there are the papers, radio stations and TV stations that we need to keep on top of to try and ensure the shooting is seen in a positive light. In that context we were delighted that a story we had been working on for months finally broke on the BBC’s website a little over a week ago, about the number of women that have taken up shooting. See here to read the full artcile.
