Launching 'Feed One' - supporting people in need

GunsOnPegs · 8 Jan 2020

January 2020 sees the launch of 'Feed One', to raise money for The Country Food Trust. With GunsOnPegs already totally free to use, now there's an added bonus when you find a shoot you like - we'll feed someone in need when you contact a shoot.

Throughout 2020 GunsOnPegs will donate £1 to the charity for every enquiry made to shoots by guns though the GunsOnPegs website or app, which is enough to provide one protein-rich meal for someone in need. Our aim is to feed 10,000 people in 2020 through the campaign.

The Country Food Trust makes top quality game-based meals which are then donated to charities which feed people who cannot afford to feed themselves or their families, or donated directly to people in need. The Trust currently produces two products: The Country Casserole and The Country Curry, both made with pheasant. £1 will pay for a game based meal, so with each free enquiry made by a gun, one hungry person will be fed.

The products are made and distributed in a special pouch which allows the food to be stored without refrigeration for up to a year, simultaneously solving two problems faced by food charities - a lack of nutritious meat sources, and a lack of freezer or chiller space.

undefinedShoots can list their availability on GunsOnPegs for free, and guns can make as many enquiries as they like, also for free. The GunsOnPegs business model is based largely on advertising revenue and we don't charge commission to shoots or guns.

As each enquiry costs users nothing, guns can enquire as many times as they like, safe in the knowledge that making an enquiry might not only result in finding some great shooting, but will also be helping someone in need. We will also be encouraging shoots to contribute to the campaign, by matching our £1 donation for each enquiry that they receive.

Chris Horne, Managing Director of GunsOnPegs said:

"As a trustee of this wonderful charity, I have been so proud of the growth it has achieved, having now fed over 500,000 people. The Country Food Trust’s aim is to feed 1 million people by February 2021 and although GunsOnPegs has supported heavily over the last few years, I felt that there must be more that we can do.

Many people don’t know that GunsOnPegs is completely free. People think we’re an agent and must charge some sort of commission, but we don’t. If some shooting on GunsOnPegs takes your fancy, sending an enquiry directly to the shoot for a quick chat doesn’t cost you or the shoot a penny, even if you book, but it will mean that you are giving a meal to someone in food poverty."

TV presenter and journalist Phil Spencer, who is an ambassador for the Country Food Trust, said:

“I’m thrilled that GunsOnPegs have launched the Feed One campaign to support the Country Food Trust. GunsOnPegs already support the Trust in many ways, but to hear that they aim to feed a further 10,000 people in 2020 is just wonderful news. It will certainly help the Trust to get closer to achieving our target of feeding one million people. With as many as 8 million people in the UK struggling to afford food, this is a great chance for GunsOnPegs users to make a real difference.”
