Schoffel Ptarmigan Pro Coat Review

Schoffel Ptarmigan Pro Coat Review

With it being the 25th anniversary of the legendary Schoffel ‘Ptarmigan’ range, the brand has released what they are saying is their ‘most technically advanced shooting coat to date’. We have put that to the test and reviewed the new Schoffel Ptarmigan Pro Coat.

Best features:

The jacket has a GORE-TEX 3-layer laminate build and is 100% waterproof, windproof and highly breathable, however it is the finer details that as we have to come expect with Schoffel products that have been perfected. From the Alcantara trim, to the microfleece hand-warming pockets, down to the rubber coated branded buttons: everything has been considered.

Most surprising feature:

Many people would have believed that it was difficult to improve on the previous Schoffel jacket that has been a stalwart amongst the shooting fraternity for so long. However my personal opinion is that this jacket feels and fits better than previous versions.

This is the only jacket that I know of that has a 3-layer laminate GORE-TEX build with a 2 way stretch; which GORE-TEX have produced specifically for the hunting market. It means that the Ptarmigan Pro has the highest water proof rating on the market and will keep you dry in the most torrential downpours whilst remaining exceptionally comfortable.

Why I should consider this product:

With their origins in the skiing world, Schoffel have been producing jackets to keep people warm and dry for decades and that experience has certainly been reflected in the quality technical shooting coats that they produce.

Designed for use in what kind of weather:

The ‘Ptarmigan Pro’ is designed to be worn as part of a layering system and therefore on a warm day you can wear it with a shirt and on cooler days you can wear a mid-layer jumper or fleece. This is perfect for the variable weather we have recently been getting over UK winters: with sunny morning followed by chilly afternoons (or vice versa) seemingly common.

It has a detachable hood so if it does start pouring down you can quickly attach it, however  if you are like me and you want to keep your peripherals clear when it is only drizzling, you can keep your hood in your inside pocket so that it does not slowly fill up with water.

Price:

£599.95
