The Best Boots For Stalking

GunsOnPegs · 21 Mar 2018 · 4 min read

Investing in a good pair of stalking boots is something you’ll never regret – the long days on the hill or in the wood are made so much more comfortable with the right pair.

These boots are made for stalking….

Nothing is worse than developing a blister half-way through your day, or tramping around with sodden socks. All walking boots need breaking in, so do make sure you wear them before your first outing. It’s also worth buying a pair of gaiters for those days when you might be crossing streams or it is very wet underfoot. Once you’ve found your perfect boots, most likely you’ll want to wear them for your game shooting days too – better grip, more support and a warmth that few wellies can beat will convince you…

We’ve lined up four of our favourite pairs of stalking boots for you to choose from.

Meindl Dovre Extreme GTX

A hugely popular choice among stalkers, Meindl has a history of boot making dating back more than 300 years in Germany. Still a family-run business, the company prides itself on quality and innovation. The Dovre Extremes are durable, made with a full-grain Nubuck leather upper twinned with Gore-Tex lining for its waterproof guarantee. The Vibram sole ensures great grip, and forms a robust base that is comfortable in any terrain. The extra height on the calf gives that little bit more support, while the heel has memory foam that moulds to the foot ensuring an even better fit. GunsOnPegs have reviewed the Meindle Dovre Extreme boots here.
RRP: £310

Brandecosse Cervo

Brandecosse has been steadily gaining traction among both men and women as the boots to wear in the field. Produced in Italy by a family of bootmakers, the boots produced by Brandecosse are built from top-quality materials and finished by hand, in the traditional Alpine way. A full 11in high at the calf, the Cervo are among the most supportive boots for mountainous terrain. With breathable and waterproof Sympatex lining, the boots come with a contoured and removable cushion footbed for comfort and are made of full-grain hydrophobic leather. Following demand from customers, there’s an option of requesting a scuff cap on the already popular Cervo model. That an increasing number of grouse keepers are swearing by these tough, comfortable boots should tell you all you need to know.
RRP: £329

Härkila Pro Hunter GTX

Härkila’s clothing has been a benchmark for its quality and long-lasting properties, and the company’s boots are fast establishing that same reputation. The Pro Hunter GTX boot is made from quality leather, and has a unique upper design with a stitched rubber band, ensuring they won’t scuff. The Ortholite footbed is built for all-day comfort while the lacing system is unique to Härkila and ensures you won’t have to retie your laces throughout the day. Unsurprisingly for a boot designed by our Viking cousins, the sole is designed to cope with any temperature or conditions underfoot thanks to the Vibram Tsavo Fire & Ice sole.

RRP £239.99 for 7.5in high; £319.99 for 12in high

Le Chameau - Chameau-Lite LCX

One of the most light-weight stalking boots you’ll find, the Le Chameau boot uses the company’s own LCX technology, which is guaranteed to be waterproof and breathable. These are also eco-friendly boots, using Terracare full-grain leather. Of course, no Le Chameau boot would be complete without the Michelin OC compound being used for the sole, which offers amazing durability, flexibility, traction and comfort. Very much a boot for active stalking, hunting and trekking, the Le Chameau offering will keep your toes warm in temperatures as low as -10˚C.
RRP: £280
