GunsOnPegs Kit Box: Le Chameau Chasseur Wellington Boots

I get to spend a fair amount of time in the field in various conditions and terrains and so it is not surprising that I have worn several brands and designs of wellies and boots. The Le Chameau wellington boot has almost become a household name both inside and outside of the fieldsports world and the classic Vert Vierzon (green) colour has become synonymous with them.

Best feature: The Chasseur wellie comes in different calf sizes, meaning if you have particularly large or for that matter skinny calves you can select between 39cm – 46 cm calf to get a comfortable, almost bespoke fit. I myself am of medium build and went for the 41cm calf size which fit perfectly.

Most surprising feature: Le Chameau boots are hand-made which I personally do not think the brand make enough noise about. Watching the master boot makers put them together is absolutely fantastic.

Unique selling point: It is difficult to point out one individual feature as a unique selling point for these wellies, however Le Chameau do seem to get everything right. The option of leather or neoprene linings and the choice of calf size means you can purchase a pair of boots that are comfortable to your own taste and with the choice of black or their iconic vert vierzon colours you will also look the part, depending on what environment you are wearing them in.

Type of hunting aimed at: I have worn these wellington boots on driven days, walked up days and stalking. Whilst I prefer to wear boots rather than wellies if I am doing something a little more active, these are exceptionally comfortable and functional, so as long as it is not too mild a day – you should be comfortable.

Why I should consider this product: These boots are warm, comfortable and stylish and can be worn both in the field or on a walk in countryside.

Country the product is manufactured: Morocco

Designed for use in what kind of weather: Wet conditions. The boots have good grip, with their shock-absorbing, insulating, all-terrain sole and so walking on muddy ground or wet grass is still comfortable. The pair I wore were leather lined and so whilst my feet were kept warm they did not overheat or sweat too much as I have found with some neoprene lined wellies on a mild winters day.
