We’ve gone through the very best with a fine tooth-comb and selected the six finest shoots Yorkshire has to offer.
Farndale
If it’s high, fast and deceptive birds you are looking for then Farndale would be a good choice. They are renowned for their excellent birds, all of which are presented to each peg rather than flying the line so there is no confusion over which bird belongs to which gun.
Location: Helmsley
Acreage: 5,000
Game available: Pheasant, partridge and grouse
Head game keeper: Bernard Moss

Mulgrave Castle
Although perhaps best known for fish and chips, Whitby is also home to the Mulgrave Castle shoot. This shoot is renowned for having an extremely wide variety of drives. These range from sprawling open drives such as Quarry Wood to clifftop coastal drives like The Point, Thorns and The Seat. The elevenses are also particularly good at Mulgrave, made by hand with local sourced produce.
Location: Whitby
Acreage: 9,000

Head game keeper: Shaun Mintoft

The large estate has the most beautiful open views with natural deciduous woodland cover rather than game crops. With around 30 drives to choose from on the historic estate, there is something to suit everyone, whether that’s standard birds or higher and more challenging flyers.
