A New Chapter for Sweet Lamb

A New Chapter for Sweet Lamb

Mark Firth speaks to Gareth and Samantha Stevens of Sweet Lamb Shoot to find out how new stewardship is reviving one of Mid-Wales' most dramatic high-bird destinations.

The Wye Valley is known for its quiet beauty, its sweeping river vistas, majestic woodland, ruined abbeys and globally famous literary festivals. These are oriented towards its lower reaches.

There’s a newer, increasingly discussed, aspect to the Wye’s sporting reputation. 83 miles upstream, in the middle of very different terrain, lies a shoot with what might be considered one of the less commonplace names at GunsOnPegs, Sweet Lamb.

At that end of the Wye Valley the land is still steep but it’s also wide open, rugged and demanding of respect. When the elements kick into overdrive, they can make the sport even more challenging – but ain’t that the point?

Although Sweet Lamb already has a proud shooting history, you can expect that to be enhanced by the stewardship of Gareth and Samantha Stevens. With a deal of expertise under their belts (his, showing truly wonderful birds, hers in ensuring that that those crucial add-ons are supplied with care and finesse) you can confidently expect Sweet Lamb to become a ‘talking point’ shoot.

With the current contraction in the shooting market, we all need the Gareth’s and Samantha’s to stand up and be counted.

Welsh sport has always been special. During my decade long membership of the Countryside Alliance Board, no group displayed more grit, determination and purpose than the Welsh.

Before the political winds blow too cold West of Offa’s Dyke, support this great new shoot – you won’t be disappointed.
