Come Dine with Us - The Country Food Trust's vitual dinner party

One of our favourite charities, the Country Food Trust, has two great initiatives that offer fun ways to raise funds to support those most in need.

Here at GunsOnPegs we are huge supporters of the Country Food Trust, the charity that uses game to feed those most in need through partnerships with food banks and other charities. There are 8.4 million people in the UK who struggle to feed themselves. The CFT raises funds to donate pheasant and venison-based meals to these people. These are supplied in packages that have a long self-life, and offer a much needed source of protein, as well as a delicious meal. The charity also supplies large quantities of frozen game to those charitable organisations that are able to store and cook it.

If, like us, you beleive that everyone, regardless of their circumstances, should be able to have a balanced, nutritious diet, the Country Food Trust is a charity you will want to support.

The CFT 'At Home' dinner party

One way that you can do this is to take part in the charity's fundraising dinner party, which takes place on Friday 19th November. The CFT is asking people to host a dinner party in their own home, where each guest contributes £50 to the charity's coffers. For every £1 that is donated, the CFT can deliver one meal to someone in need.

  • When you purchase your ticket, you will receive access to exclusive content and offers for the evening.
  • A silent auction will run throughout the evening, with guests able to make bids through an online platform.
  • 1 – 2 weeks before the event hosts will receive a printed brochure for each guest.
  • Hosts will be provided with a video message from the CFT's Chief Executive Tim Woodward, to play to their guests, as well as a short film about the charity's work.
  • A WhatsApp group will allow you to keep up to date on what's going on at other parties

For more information, find out more via the Country Food Trust's website.

If you're already busy on the 19th November, you can of course make a donation via the CFT's website.

Go 'pheasant neutral'

For those of us who shoot, One4One is a new pledge scheme from The Country Food Trust, giving those who shoot, the CFT has launched a fun new initiative that offers a novel way to raise funds.

The premise is simple; individual guns pledge £1 to The CFT for every bird they bag during a season. Every £1 donated will provide one meal to a person in need. The scheme operates throughout the shooting season every year. Those taking part make their pledge to The CFT at the start of the season and receive their One4One badge. Pledgers then keep a tally (accurate or embellished!) of all the game birds they shoot. At the end of the season The Country Food Trust contact all One4One pledgers to invite them to make their donation.

One Bird = One Pound = One meal

A special prize will be awarded in April to the gun who has made the biggest donation of the season. The CFT hope that syndicates, friends and families can all have a bit of fun with this, harnessing the competitive spirit and old rivalries found on shooting fields across the land into meaningful donations that go directly towards feeding those experiencing food poverty in the UK. Register for the scheme here.

Chris Horne, MD of GunsOnPegs and a Trustee of the Country Food Trust said:

The Country Food Trust continues to do amazing and vital work, having now delivered over 2.5 million meals to people in need, and as winter approaches their work is even more important. These two fundraising campaigns present a great opportunity for guns to give a little back and help those in need
