Revealed: the INEOS Grenadier models you can order

George Browne · 18 May 2022 · 10 min read

After months of planning and development, and more than a million miles of testing, INEOS Automotive’s rugged new 4x4 is ready to order. We reveal the models on offer.

Long-time readers of GunsOnPegs will be aware that we have been avidly following the journey of the INEOS Grenadier from concept to the finished product. Judging by the stats, you guys have been as excited as we are about the entire project. In that time the various prototypes have been put through a gruelling 1.1 million miles of testing in every climate and landscape imaginable, from smooth metalled roads to the harsh sand of the Namibian Skeleton Coast and the snowy tracks of the Arctic Circle.

All the while, you’ve read the articles, watched the videos, listened to the podcasts, then shared your thoughts, and asked a great many pertinent questions on everything from the cost to the specs. Thanks to our close relationship with INEOS Grenadier, we’ve been able to answer lots of those queries, but understandably, we’ve had to wait for clarity on some of them.

Well, now that wait is over, because from today (18th May 2022), the INEOS Grenadier is available to order. With this news come the final details on the models that will be available, how they will be kitted out, and how much they will cost. So, let’s have a look.

What models of INEOS Grenadier are available?

To begin with, there will be three models of the Grenadier, two commercial variants (2- or 5-seat), and two highly specced 5-seat versions.

Utility wagon - The utilitarian, 4x4 work vehicle

The 2-seater ‘Utility Wagon’. A certified commercial vehicle (important for tax reasons), this model is primarily designed to carry loads. The cabin is separated from the cargo area by a full-height barrier, while the cargo bay itself has a full-length flat floor capable of accommodating a standard Euro Pallet (or, we are told, 3 sheep), and has 12 tie-down rings to keep loads locked in place.

If this huge 2,088 litre space still isn’t big enough, all vehicles come with built-in roof rails as standard, and for more frequent roof-loading there’s the option of a full-length steel roof rack, custom-designed by Rhino Rack, capable of carrying an additional 150kg of kit. Plus, all Grenadiers can handle the rough stuff with permanent four-wheel drive and a centre diff lock as standard, and all have a towing capacity of 3.5 tonnes.

undefined

There’s also the optional exterior ‘utility belt’ that runs along the sides, capable of carrying a wide range of equipment thanks to a universal attachment system and four adjustable quick-release tie-down rings.

Inside, the ‘splashproof’ interior means that no matter how mucky the job or your passengers, you can quickly and easily get things looking ship-shape again. Five drain valves in the floor mean you can simply hose away any mud, deer blood or whatever those sheep have left behind in seconds, and with no worries about damaging the cabin’s electronics, thanks to its IP54K rating. There are also optional hard-wearing seat covers for truly rugged jobs.

Hardwearing, yet comfortable

With all that hard-wearing, work-focussed stuff, you could be forgiven for anticipating that the experience of driving one would be similarly utilitarian, with all the comfort of an outside toilet, but you’d be wrong.

For family peace of mind, there’s a full array of airbags, plus fittings for child seats and handy grab-handles for those whose age or girth makes getting in and out of high vehicles a challenge, as well as optional running boards (side runners), which also make a great platform upon which to stand when loading the roof and from which to scan the fields for hordes of marauding pigeons.

undefined

There’s also a wide array of connectivity and power supplies: a 12v socket, plus USB A and USB C ports in the centre console. There’s an ‘infotainment’ system with DAB+ radio and Bluetooth connectivity, while Android™ Auto and Apple CarPlay® mean you’ll be able to access all your favourite podcasts (like The GunsOnPegs Podcast) and playlists. A smart central touchscreen is super handy, but there are also manual switches for when greasy, dirty or gloved hands make operating s touchscreeen difficult.

What’s more, supportive Recaro seats offer solid support for your back, while the body of the Grenadier, which is isolated from the frame with eight chassis mounts, reduces vibrations and absorbs the bumps and lumps in both roads and tracks.

A hardworking family 4x4

Next in the range is the “Station Wagon”. Equipped with a second-row bench seat and a half-height barrier as standard, you can easily seat 5, yet still benefit from the commercial vehicle classification

undefined

Like the 2-seater, INEOS Grenadier describes this as a ‘blank canvas’, meaning that you start with the standard spec, and then add upgrades and packs to create a machine that’s exactly suited to your needs.

undefined

There’s a choice of ten paint colours and a variety of contrast wraps, more functional additions like safari windows, alloy or steel wheels, specialist tyres and a host of accessory packs and bolt-ons. You can also choose to add two further USB ports in the rear so the kids can keep their devices fully charged.

undefined

Naturally the additional passenger capacity of the 5-seater reduces the cargo area, but for those bigger jobs the rear bench seat can be folded flat, giving over 2,000 litres of carrying capacity, and for those big family holidays, days on the river or ski-trips the as-standard roof rails and protection strips allow you to load your kit high. Like the Utility Wagon, the Station Wagon has a 3.5 tonne towing capacity, perfect for horse boxes, gun trailers or boats.  Place your order

The Belstaff Editions

Topping off the range (with increased rear legroom over the commercial 5-seat variant) there will also be two Station Wagon Belstaff Editions available, inspired by Belstaff and the two brands’ shared philosophy for creating authentic, uncompromising products that are engineered to stand the test of time. Both come with pre-selected options and accessories, but you can still add more (if you need!).

undefinedThe Trailmaster

The first, the Trialmaster, is built with extreme off-roading in mind. Kitted out for hardcore, challenging expeditions, it comes equipped with an array of features to ensure you can go anywhere, no matter the terrain or the conditions, such as a raised air-intake, auxiliary battery, a compass with altimeter, front and rear differential locks and BFGoodrich All-terrain KO2 tyres.

undefined
The Fieldmaster

The Trialmaster’s sister, the Fieldmaster, is engineered for living an adventurous lifestyle, and those who need their off-roader to get them and their equipment where they need to go. This comes equipped with the all-important safari (lamping) windows and roof access ladder, plus some creature comforts like heated leather front seats and auxiliary charging points.

Both Belstaff Editions cost £59,000 including VAT. Place your order

Where to buy a Grenadier

INEOS Grenadier will have 24 sales locations around the UK, the first of which will open in June. From these locations you’ll be able to arrange a test drive and get expert advice from the fully trained partners. We’re told that each of these locations has been carefully selected for their deep-seated understanding of off-road vehicles. You can find your nearest dealership on this map.

There will also be a number of ‘Ambassador’ partners, ranging from country estates to rental companies, where you can also arrange a test drive and get advice.

However, for those who can’t get to a dealership easily, or just prefer the simplicity of doing things online, you will also be able to configure your Grenadier and order it all via the INEOS Grenadier website.
